Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, the spiritual heir and grandson of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, recently completed a US teaching tour, with programming in New York, Colorado, and Montana. The visit focused on connecting communities in the West with traditional Nyingma teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and the continued transmission of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche’s teachings.
Rabjam Rinpoche first stopped in New York, where he presented on a variety of teachings, including “Discovering the Natural State: Pith Instructions for the Path by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche” at the SVA Theatre.
The second stop of the tour was in Montana, where he visited the Ewam Garden of 1000 Buddhas and the Namchak Retreat Ranch, founded by Lama Tsomo. There, he consecrated the Ewam Garden of 1000 Buddhas, a sacred site and botanical garden. At the Namchak Retreat Ranch, he taught on compassion, leading 180 people in a compassion meditation and offering a teaching on “Ambrosia for the Mind,” a text by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo. Stephen Small Salmon, a Pend d’Oreille tribal member from the Flathead Reservation, also joined Rabjam Rinpoche in blessing the future site of the three-year retreat center at the Namchak Retreat Ranch.
Finally, Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado hosted Rabjam Rinpoche in partnership with the Ri-mé Society for three teaching events from October 14-21. The first event “Enlightened Courage: Vital Instructions for the Cultivation of Awakened Heart,” was offered in person and virtually and focused on “instructions on how to arouse one’s bodhicitta and enact compassion, penetrating intelligence, and consummate skillful ability in the world.” The second event, “Sadhana of Mahamudra Abhisheka”, a Vajrayana Buddhist empowerment open to all took place on October 21. The last presentation on the tour was “Guhyagarbha and White Manjushri Abhishekas,” a significant Vajrayana Student Empowerment in the Nyingma lineage, which was offered to Vajrayana students on October 22. Rabjam Rinpoche also visited the Shambhala Publications offices in Boulder, who had offered a list of recommended readings to accompany each of the previous events.
