How to Donate Securities

Lion’s Roar now accepts donations of investment securities. You can make an investment in sharing the dharma and reduce your taxes by donating securities (shares, mutual funds, etc) directly to the Lion’s Roar Foundation.

The benefits of a gift of appreciated assets, such as shares or securities, are three-fold.

1. Receive a larger tax deduction for the asset’s full market value at the time of donating.
2. Avoid paying a capital gains tax you would otherwise incur from the sale.
3. Ensure that more of your gift reaches Lion’s Roar.

The tables below illustrate an example of the advantages of directly donating shares or securities to Lion’s Roar Foundation instead of selling them and donating the proceeds. This calculation assumes a tax rate of 50%. Please consult with your tax advisor to understand your specific situation.
