Lion’s Roar associate editors Mihiri Tillakaratne and Noel Alumit are excited to announce Lion’s Roar’s new digital publication, Bodhi Leaves: The Asian American Buddhist Monthly.

One hundred and seventy years ago, in San Francisco’s Chinatown, Chinese immigrants established the first Buddhist temple in the United States. Though Americans of Asian descent are the oldest and largest Buddhist group in the U.S., our voices have been strangely absent in discussions of what “American Buddhism” means. Bodhi Leaves is an important step in changing this.

Every month, Bodhi Leaves will feature articles and teachings exploring the Asian American Buddhist experience. While Bodhi Leaves’ content will be solely from an Asian American Buddhist perspective, its themes will be universal. We hope that everyone, regardless of race or ethnicity, can gain wisdom from Asian American Buddhists writing with the freedom to be unabashedly ourselves. All are welcome to this party!

Bodhi Leaves hopes to create space for Asian American Buddhists to engage with one another, deepen our practice, and reframe Buddhism in America. Sign up here to receive this free monthly digital publication. You’ll receive the first issue of Bodhi Leaves as soon as it launches on May 1! In the meantime, explore the Bodhi Leaves page.
